Wedding Flowers on a Budget

According to The Knot, the average cost of wedding flowers in 2023 was $2800. While it’s hard to top the stunning effect of hundreds of fresh, beautiful flowers beautifully arranged by a professional in the color palette of your choice, some couples just don’t have room in their budget to splurge in this category.

Here are some ways to reduce the cost of your wedding flowers:

If you want real flowers, you can choose more affordable varieties, such as carnations, chrysanthemums, and daisies. You can also add lots of greenery (it turns out that this is SUPER pretty anyway!), and/or choose flowers that are in season in your location.

Buying in bulk and then DIY-ing the arrangement is another great option. We recently had a wedding that employed this to great effect. They bought the flowers at Costco, then separated them into lots of little bundles in vases they also bought in bulk. The results were FABULOUS (see pic below)!

Don’t underestimate the power of thrift stores when you’re looking for vases or mason jars, and even wine bottles can serve as a unique holder for your flower arrangements!

If you’re willing to go the artificial route, it’s easy enough to find fabric flowers at your local craft store. But we’ve had great success with Sola wood flowers, too, which can be dyed any color you like and have a unique, crafty vibe (see pic below).

An added benefit of artificial flowers is that they never die. It’s hard to justify a high cost for something that only lasts a few days, but with artificial flowers, you can pass them along to a loved one, reuse them for another special occasion, incorporate them into your home décor, or simply keep them as everlasting mementos of your special day!

Finally, you can go the minimalist route. Single stems in bud vases are beautiful, but it’s even possible to forego flowers entirely, replacing them with candles, fairy lights, beautifully arranged fabrics, seashells, etc.
